Ad group sued by Musk disbands

Business Insider reports that the Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM), a group of advertisers, has “discontinued” its activities, according to an email sent to its members. The group cited limited funding and its focus on addressing an antitrust lawsuit filed against it by X.

GARM was established in 2019 by the World Federation of Advertisers (WFA) to encourage advertisers to avoid social media platforms that fail to meet specific safety standards. In its lawsuit, X accused GARM of orchestrating an advertiser boycott of Twitter.

This lawsuit is one of several unusual legal actions initiated by Elon Musk, seemingly aimed more at retaliating against those who oppose him rather than grounded in solid legal arguments. Musk has also taken legal action against OpenAI, a competitor to his X.AI, and Media Matters, in an apparent attempt to silence the non-profit organization.
